The thesis examines the development of sports television broadcasts and their impact on modern sport. The purpose of the thesis is to present the historical development of sports reporting from the pre-media period to contemporary digital sports broadcasts and to analyse the influence of technological advancements in the media on the way the sport is perceived, popularized, and commercialized. Special emphasis is placed on the development of television, sports television broadcasts, production technologies, and modern digital platforms.
The thesis is based on a descriptive research method using a review of domestic and foreign scientific literature. Historical sources, articles, books, and online sources related to the development of media, television, and sports broadcasting were analysed. The thesis is founded on a chronological presentation of the development of sports media and an analysis of the impact of individual technological innovations on the development of modern sport.
The findings show that the mass media have had a significant influence on the development and global popularization of sport and that this influence on modern sport continues to grow. Historically, television has had the greatest impact by combining sound and image, enabling a more realistic and dynamic way of following sports events. Modern sports broadcasts are increasingly complemented by rapidly developing technologies. Multi-camera production, slow-motion replays, graphic displays, drones, streaming platforms, and artificial intelligence continue to significantly improve the viewing experience and transform sports broadcasts into a complex media spectacle. The development of sports broadcasting has also had an important impact on the professionalization and commercialization of sport, as well as on the formation of modern sports and media culture.
