This master’s thesis examines safety and sustainable mobility on school routes, as well as the factors influencing pupil’s choice of travel mode when commuting to school. Based on a study conducted in three primary schools, ifrastructural, family-related, organisational, and psychological factors shaping childrens’s travel behaviour were analysed. The findings indicate that the quality of transport infrastructure, road safety education programmes, and effective cooperation among schools, parents, and local communities significantly contribute to a greater use of sustainable modes of transport. The thesis highlights the need for comprehensive and integrated approach to planning safe school routes, which can enhance road safety, promote children’s health and well-being, and support the sustainable development of local communities.
