Legal literacy is a broad concept that ranges from individuals who are merely aware that the legal system exists and recognize legal terms and phrases, to legal professionals. Between these two extremes lies the level of competence in legal discourse that is necessary for a meaningful and active life in society that enables individuals to protect and assert their rights and interests while being aware of their duties. Literacy in general is crucial for individuals to interact and participate in society, while legal literacy fully integrates them into a community that shares a legal system. Education plays a key role in this, which is why legal literacy is included in the educational system as part of civic education. In my master's thesis, in addition to defining the concept of legal literacy, I reviewed curricula in the Slovenian educational system and conducted a survey exploring interest in civic education topics and testing respondents' knowledge in this area.
