This dataset contains georeferenced soil samples from the dry retention basin Brdnikova in Ljubljana, Slovenia, collected in an upper layer (A, 0–10 cm) and a lower layer (D, 10–20 cm). For each sample, a bench-top pXRF analyzer was used to determine concentrations of 17 elements (Ti, Cr, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Rb, Sr, Zr, Pb, Mn, Al, Si, P, K, Ca), together with selected physicochemical soil properties (pH in water, electrical conductivity, organic carbon, carbonate content, total nitrogen, C/N ratio, and plant-available phosphorus and potassium). The dataset includes sample identifiers, land-use classes, and sampling coordinates where appropriate. It is used to compare conventional z-score principal component analysis with centred log-ratio (CLR) PCA, and to perform robust PCA, PERMANOVA and spatial analysis of soil geochemistry in the retention basin. All data are published in CSV format, accompanied by a reproducible R workflow for the analyses linked to the associated article.
