Teamwork is an indispensable approach for professionals in education. In our master's thesis,
we were interested in how teamwork takes place in the school counseling service between
individual professional profiles, and how their competencies are reflected in this.
In the theoretical part, we first defined the operation of the school counseling service in Slovenia
and presented the basic principles of its operation. We then presented the role and functions of
the school counseling service. We also described three interrelated basic types of activities and
the conditions for the high-quality and successful operation of the school counseling service.
Furthermore, in the first part, we presented the competencies of professional profiles in the
counseling service, with an emphasis on a more detailed presentation of the competencies of
the four selected professional profiles included in the empirical research. In the second part, we
defined the terms teamwork and team, as defined by Slovenian and foreign experts. We
presented the types of teams in education, roles and interpersonal relationships in the team. We
also described the three stages of teamwork. We then presented the advantages and challenges
of teamwork, supported by the results of Slovenian and foreign research. At the end of the
theoretical part, we presented (interdisciplinary) teamwork in the school counseling service
between different professional profiles of school counselors. We also highlighted the
importance of the school counseling service's cooperation with experts inside and outside the
educational institution.
In the empirical part, we conducted six semi-structured interviews with school counselors, four
different professional profiles. We studied the set of competencies of individual professional
profiles in the context of teamwork in the counseling service, the distribution of tasks and roles,
and communication within the team. We then investigated the counselors' experiences with
teamwork, management support, and the perceived advantages and challenges of teamwork.
The master's thesis contributes to a better understanding of the importance of teamwork in the
school counseling service, and sheds light on the importance of the presence of different
professional profiles, who contribute to the quality of the work of the counseling service with
their diverse competencies.
