In the thesis, I address the problem of inconsistent waste separation in primary schools, where students often struggle with correct sorting despite possessing basic knowledge. Existing systems are frequently inconsistent, visually unclear, and poorly adapted to the developmental characteristics of children in the first triad, which complicates their decision-making process during waste separation.
Based on theoretical foundations and an analysis of circumstances at the Simon Jenko Kranj Primary School, I have developed a visual system based on collage illustrations made from waste materials. In this way, the material itself becomes a carrier of meaning, establishing a more direct connection between the waste item and its classification. Furthermore, personified characters serve as motivational elements that encourage children to interact with the system.
I have further upgraded the solution by designing an award certificate and conducting a creative workshop, expanding the system into a didactic method that promotes understanding and the active involvement of children in the waste separation process.
