The master’s thesis examines the impact of team teaching in physical education on children’s strength ability. The purpose of the study was to determine whether strength differs between pupils who receive team teaching in physical education and pupils taught by a single teacher. In addition, differences according to grade and gender were examined.
The theoretical part presents the foundations of teamwork and team teaching, the specific features of teamwork in physical education, and motor abilities, with an emphasis on strength. It also presents the Sports Educational Chart, or the SLOfit system, from which the data for the study were obtained.
In the empirical part, a quantitative research approach was used. The study included 897 pupils from the 2nd to the 5th grade of six Slovenian primary schools, with the sample being purposively selected. Three schools where physical education is taught through team teaching and three schools where physical education is taught by a single teacher were included. The data were obtained from the Sports Educational Chart, or the SLOfit system. To assess strength development, the results of three strength tests were used: standing long jump, sit-ups, and bent-arm hang. The data were processed using IBM SPSS Statistics.
The results showed that pupils involved in team teaching achieved slightly higher mean results in all three tests. However, a statistically significant difference according to the teaching method was found only in the bent-arm hang. Statistically significant differences between grades were found in all three strength tests, with results generally increasing with grade level. According to gender, a statistically significant difference was found only in the standing long jump, where boys achieved higher results than girls.
Based on the results, it can be concluded that, in the studied sample, team teaching in physical education is mainly associated with better results in the bent-arm hang test, which measures arm and shoulder girdle strength and endurance. Its impact on the other measured forms of strength could not be confirmed.
