The aim of this master’s thesis was to comprehensively evaluate the status of eastern white pine (Pinus strobus L.) in Slovenia and to determine the characteristics of its regeneration. The study was carried out on six research plots (Mlake, Velika Bukovica, Smlednik, Kidričevo, Njivica and Dutovlje), where field measurements were used to analyse stand vitality, dimensional structure, stem quality and regeneration dynamics. We examined the relationship between seedling density and the distance from parent stands, as well as browsing damage by ungulates. In each stand, regeneration was systematically surveyed on plots inside and outside the stands, while the vitality and quality of mature trees were assessed using a five-point scale. Various statistical methods were applied to test the hypotheses. The results showed significant differences between plots in vitality (highest 4.74, lowest 2.82), mean diameter (30.3–51.2 cm) and stem quality (highest 2.7, lowest 2.21). The most intensive regeneration was recorded in Mlake, while a significant decline in seedling density with increasing distance from the parent stand was confirmed only in Smlednik (R² = 0.514; p < 0.013). The findings show that eastern white pine may play a potentially important role in future forest composition at certain sites, but its development will depend on local site conditions and silvicultural strategies.
