The diploma thesis Planning and implementing sculpture activities with children from 1 to 3 years of age consists of a theoretical and an empirical part.
In the theoretical part, I present the importance of visual arts in the preschool period. I focus in particular on the field of sculpture and on artistic development in the first age group. I also outline the principles of art education for younger children.
The empirical part is divided into two sections. In the first section, I used a questionnaire to gain insight into the ways in which preschool teachers plan and carry out sculptural activities in the first age group. In the second section, I conducted sculptural activities with children, organised into six stages. Using a self-designed observation sheet, I observed and recorded children’s responses to the type and manner of presentation of sculptural materials. The analysis was further supported by photographic documentation created during the implementation of the activities.
