| Opomba: | TITLE: Media perception of the My Voice, My Choice movement in Slovenia and Croatia / ABSTRACT: The media, as a central part of everyday information consumption, do not merely report facts but also shape the content through evaluative judgements, discursive strategies and rhetorical devices. That way they can affect the reader and their attitude towards the subject and shape the public opinion. Discourse analysis is one of the ways in which the hidden meanings in the text can be identified and interpreted. This method is used in my final paper to examine how Slovenian and Croatian media reported on the My Voice, My Choice movement during their signature-gathering campaign for safe and accessible abortion. The aim of the paper is to point out the strategies of media manipulation in reports on current social issues using the example of the My Voice, My Choice movement. The corpus consists of online news articles published on Slovenian and Croatian portals from the beginning of the campaign in 2024 to its successful completion in 2025. In the paper, examples of strategies and devices at the word/phrase level and the sentence/utterance level, their potential connotations, and the ways in which they may shape the readers' perception of the topic are given. / KEY WORDS: discourse analysis, media literacy, strategies of media manipulation, reproductive rights, abortion, My Voice, My Choice |
