The master’s thesis deals with the conceptual design of a contemporary Buddhist center named Buddha Center Ljubljana. It is a multi-building complex with a diverse program that enables practitioners of the Buddhist tradition to engage in systematic and continuous spiritual practice. It is located in Vižmarje, along Celovška cesta and Kolesarska pot. The site was selected based on its good connectivity and the possibility of spatial separation.
The theoretical framework includes a brief presentation of Buddhist philosophy, a definition of the problem, a history of Buddhist architecture, an analysis of references, and finally a synthesis that determines the program. This is followed by site analyses and compositional diagrams.
The design vision is based on the integration of Eastern spiritual thought with European building tradition, and on the aspiration for architecture to return to its original purpose: to be a place where one encounters transcendence.
The result is a comprehensive architectural model that, through order and discipline, establishes a new spatial identity of Buddhism in Ljubljana.
