Today's high school students, belonging to Generation Z, exhibit specific characteristics in their information behaviour. The high school curriculum foresees five assigned readings per academic year, with allowing the students to choose between some texts, and one text potentially being freely selected. This master's thesis examined how students choose reading materials from these lists, which factors influence their selection, which sources they use to gather information about the texts, and how they obtain them. In September 2025 we conducted 37 semi-structured interviews among students at Gimnazija Novo mesto , and we also interviewed teachers of Slovene language and the school librarian at the same school. The results showed that students generally lack motivation to select and read assigned texts, while motivation is higher for freely chosen readings. The students' main sources for information are their social circle and the internet, and their searches tend to be unsystematic and spontaneous. Students choose reading materials based on their interests and factors such as the title, summary, and length of the text. They primarily obtain books through library loans, with a preference for printed versions. Based on the findings the typical user personas were created, which helped formulate suggestions for improving the library catalogue and supporting activities in the school environment that would be appropriate for the characteristics of Generation Z.
