Introduction: The problematic use of digital technology is an increasingly common challenge of modern society. It is a problem of modern times, which is divided into several forms of addiction. Addiction can lead to preoccupation with one activity and disruption of the occupational balance, which significantly affects the individual's functioning, health and quality of life. The occupational therapist plays an important role in dealing with the disrupted everyday life by using appropriate assessment approaches and interventions. Purpose: The diploma work investigates the importance of occupational balance of individual's with excessive use of digital technology and highlight the effect of occupational therapy treatment on restoring balance. The research question is: How does the problematic use of digital technology affect occupational balance? Methods: The work is based on a literature review identifies by searching three databases. The literature was searched using inclusion and exclusion criteria and a search formula. Eight articles were included in the final article analysis. Results: From the analysis of eight articles, we identified four common themes that mention the connection between behavioral addiction and occupational balance, negative patterns, occupational therapy treatment and the use of assessment tools. Occupational balance depends on individual satisfaction and the relationship between different occupations. Preoccupation with one activity leads to disruption of the occupational balance and reduced functionality of the person. Due to the excessive use of digital technology, the individual's structure of the day and cognitive health are destroyed. The occupational therapist support the restoration of occupational balance with the help of standardized assessment tools and intervention approaches. Discussion and conclusion: Disrupted occupational balance affects a person's identity, organization of time and lifestyle. Occupational therapy significantly contributes to reducing the consequences of the problematic use of digital technologies. At the same time, the findings highlight the need for further research in this area.
