Naslov:The role of nurses in family therapy for people with alcohol dependence: challenges and opportunities : diploma work
Izvleček:
Introduction: In this bachelor's thesis, we focused on the role of nurses in the treatment of families in which alcohol dependence occurs, as well as on the challenges and opportunities that such a therapeutic environment presents. Alcoholism is a chronic disease that significantly affects not only the individual but also their family and the wider social environment. Therefore, a holistic approach that includes the support and involvement of family members is essential in the treatment of addiction. In this thesis, we explore these challenges and opportunities and highlight how nurses can further improve their role in this specific therapeutic environment. Purpose: Nurses play an important role in this process, as they participate in identifying the need for assistance, provide support to families, carry out health education, and take part in the process of family therapy. In their work, they often encounter various challenges, such as resistance to treatment, emotional distress among family members, and the complex dynamics of family relationships. Methods: The bachelor's thesis is divided into a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part is based on a narrative review of domestic and international literature, while the empirical part is based on a quantitative research approach using a survey questionnaire. Results: The majority of participants in the study were women (92 %), most of them aged between 31 and 40 years, and the majority had completed bachelor’s degree. Although most respondents do not have experience in the treatment of alcoholism and family therapy, the results indicate that they recognize the important role of nurses in supporting families of individuals with alcohol dependence. The highest level of agreement was observed regarding the importance of understanding and accepting addiction within the family, while slightly lower agreement was found regarding the motivation of family members to participate in the therapeutic process. Discussion and Conclusion: The results of the study confirm that nurses play a key role in the family therapy of individuals with alcohol dependence. Their role is particularly important in the areas of communication, education, and support for family members. It was found that they contribute to improving family dynamics and promote the acceptance and understanding of addiction. The research also reveals certain challenges, particularly the lack of motivation among family members to participate in the therapeutic process, as well as limited resources and time constraints faced by nurses. It can be concluded that a holistic approach is essential for the long-term success of treatment and for improving the quality of life of both the individual and their family.
