The thesis discusses privatization as a process of transforming ownership from public to the private sector, with a focus on the Slovenian banking system. The comparative analysis of the privatization of Nova kreditna banka Maribor (Nova KBM, d. d.) and Nova ljubljanska banka (NLB, d. d.) is the foreground, as they represent important examples of changes in ownership in the period after the financial crisis. The purpose of this thesis is to present the differences and comparison between the reasons, goals,procedures, methodes and results of bank privatization, and to compare how their operations looked before and after privatization.
The comparative method was used. In the empirical part, the privatization od Nova KBM, d. d. and NLB, d. d. are presednted seperately, with the course of the procedures, reasons, goals, and rešujte analyzed. Based on the seperate analyses, a comparative analysis was conducted, which includes comparison of the reasons for privatization, the goals set, the procedures, and the results achieved. In addition, the operations of both banks in the three-year period before and after privatization were analyzed.
Findings show that privatization differed in terms of reasons and procedures, but both had the common goal of improving the stability and efficiency operations.
The thesis contributes to the field with an in-depth analysis of bank privatization, as it gathers and systematically processes information on the course, reasons, goals, and consequences of both privatizations in one place.
