This diploma thesis examines the analysis of the rolling stock of Slovenske železnice d. o. o. and its role in modern railway transport. The first part presents the theoretical foundations of railway rolling stock maintenance, different maintenance approaches, and the importance of safety, digitalization, and sustainable development. Special emphasis is placed on modern transport vehicles, technological trends, the development of propulsion systems, and the comparison of conventional, high-speed, and maglev systems.
In the practical part, the rolling stock of Slovenske železnice is analyzed in detail, including its structure, technical characteristics, and level of modernization. A SWOT analysis was conducted to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to further development.
The results indicate that in recent years Slovenske železnice has taken significant steps toward the modernization of passenger transport and the introduction of modern railway vehicles. However, part of the rolling stock, particularly in freight transport, still requires gradual technological upgrading. Future development is closely linked to digitalization, sustainability objectives, and improvements in energy efficiency. The findings highlight the strategic importance of continuous investment in rolling stock modernization and maintenance optimization. The research also emphasizes the important role of railway transport in achieving long-term national and European sustainability goals.
