The present book entitled Milky Way: The Star Symbols over the Slovenian Poetic Landscape treats the reception of Symbolism in the Slovene literature. Similarly as in other European literatures Symbolism deeply influenced the Slovene poetry, prose and drama at the end of the 19th century (so called Slovene Moderna: Ivan Cankar, Oton Župančič and Josip Murn) and the beginning of the Modern and Avant-guard poetics (Srečko Kosovel, Edvard Kocbek), but contrary to the great majority of other literatures where the Symbolist influence died out giving birth to the Avant-guard radicalism, it remained a fruitful inspiration not only throughout the 20th century, but even today, usually as one of the important dimensions of the poetic language and its interpretation of the world.
