The paper discusses the question of the lexicographic description of discourse markers – expressions that are in some usages depleted of their semantic meaning. The problems are at least of three kinds: what theoretical model should be used to interpret the pragmatic and discourse functions; avoiding subjective interpretation as much as possible; and finding an appropriate balance between over-detailed description and too general, brief description.
