Works that fall into the category of Slovene historical lexicography differ with respect to their grammatical informativeness. Although there are various reasons for these differences, they largely depend on the type of dictionary and the material the dictionary is based on. A comprehensive semantic definition of lexical items as headwords and accurate determining of their grammatical characteristics, particularly the syntactic context of use of each individual semantic unit, are only possible on the basis of complete material. Findings concerning the meaning and grammatical features of words as lexical entries brought to light through an analytical process often enrich historical linguistics, as well as the study of modern language.
