The transcribing of Slovene folk songs excluded printed editions which could serve as templates for this, since the links with the press contradicted the notion of the originality of Slovene folk culture. A study of the folksong tradition referring to fatal events reveals that many narratives had an informative role, and in some cases this included leaflets. Consideration of some Slovene folk songs about serious offences and punishments also enabled the re-evaluation of the oldest leaflet containing Slovene words.
