In my master’s thesis, I explore the history of woodblock printing in Japan and Slovenia, with a special focus on the traditional Japanese technique of mokuhanga. In the theoretical part, I present a chronological overview of Slovenian colour woodcuts held by the National Gallery, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary History of Slovenia,
and the Božidar Jakac Gallery. I also propose a Slovenian dictionary of basic terms related to Japanese woodblock printing, as they have not yet been systematically
translated. I highlight the environmental potential of this technique, which is evident in the use of natural materials and sustainable processes. In addition, I focus on the
philosophical reflection on the concepts of ambient and chance in artistic practice and explore connections with process art. I transfer these theoretical reflections to the practical part of the thesis, which is realized as an exhibition titled Dark Matter.
