This master's thesis addresses the topic of local data acquisition from modern electricity meters. The development of the device was carried out in collaboration with the company Mega M, d.o.o. For the purposes of developing their EMS system, the company sought a solution for simple and reliable real-time data acquisition from metering devices. Based on the specified requirements for integration into the existing EMS system, the technical requirements for the local data acquisition solution were defined. Furthermore, an overview of the most common devices present among household and industrial users of distribution networks in Slovenia is provided. The devices discussed in the thesis are the Iskra MT880, Landis+Gyr E450, and Iskraemeco IE.5. Based on the research of these meters, software for device parameterization is also presented. The software tools introduced include Iskra MeterView, Landis+Gyr MAP110, Iskraemeco Symbiot Configurator, and Gurux GXDLMSDirector. Protocols at the physical and application levels of communication between the microcontroller and the energy metering device are outlined. The presentation includes communication protocols RS485, DSMR (P1), and Meter-Bus, as well as software protocols DLMS and IEC 62056. The use of OBIS codes in data parsing is demonstrated. The development of a device prototype based on the ESP32-C3 microcontroller is presented. The hardware and software components of the communication device are described, along with the corresponding schematics. A solution for the mass management of IoT devices is introduced. This solution is compared with the Reduxi solution on multiple levels, including support for different connections, price, and power consumption. The final result of the development is a prototype smart communication module for local data acquisition from advanced electricity meters. The integration of the device at an end-user site via connection to a Landis+Gyr E650 device is demonstrated, followed by the integration of the final solution into Mega M, d.o.o. EMS system.
