This article applies a pragmatic approach to certain morphological variants in modern normative manuals (the normative guide and a monolingual dictionary), which do not always agree. They are checked by use in a morphological corpus and also justified from a diachronic perspective. Through relaxed written communication, elements from nonstandard language are introduced into the modern standard, and so variants are a welcome help for achieving linguistic correctness if they are acquired by language users and advisers.
