Emotions are the basis of the reader’s action. Without the emotional participation of the reader, interpretation is not possible. The first impressions of a text can be extremely valuable, especially if they are developed further, through reflection and knowledge of literature. Reflection on first impressions is the starting point of this article, which draws attention to the importance of emotions in literary socialization and reading motivation at the intersection of Slovenian school curricula, reading motivation projects, PISA scores, and contemporary theoretical findings (Anderson, Damasio, and Felski).
