Verbal folklore, as an important part of cultural heritage, has a distinct educational and aesthetic value that enables students to develop cultural awareness, literary understanding, and a sense of community belonging. The master's thesis discusses the possibilities and advantages of incorporating oral folklore into the teaching of Slovene in the third cycle of elementary school through problem-based learning. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the concept of literary folklore, specifically describing genres that are based on oral tradition and performance in a specific context. Problem-based learning is a modern pedagogical approach that encourages critical thinking, creativity, independence, and collaborative learning. The text specifically highlights how this teaching method strengthens students internal motivation and contributes to the development of empathy, problem-solving skills, and connecting knowledge with everyday life. The empirical part of the thesis presents a study in which 7th grade elementary school students participated. By conducting problem-based lessons, analyzing lesson plans, and surveying participants, findings were obtained on the effectiveness of the approach and its impact on the student's experience of folklore content. The results show that problem-based teaching significantly contributes to a deeper understanding of literary folklore and its acceptance as living and usable knowledge. The task proposes options for more systematic integration of oral folklore into literature teaching and encourages pedagogical practices that go beyond traditional methods and offer students an active, research-based, and experiential experience of literature.
