This master's thesis focuses on the time between the two world wars, which significantly influenced the history of the Primorska region. After the First World War, the Italian authorities occupied the territory of the Italian region Friuli Venezia Giulia which back then was densely populated with Slovenians and began to carry out »ethnic improvement« (also known as “Italian colonization”). Despite the planned abolition of the Slovene cultural/literary and social life and of the change of the school system, the Slovene organizations and Slovenians persevered. The underground anti-fascist organization TIGR (Trieste, Istria, Gorizia, Rijeka) was organized as a response and operated until the beginning of World War II. The fascist authorities repeatedly tried to suppress the organization, but due to its diversification throughout the Primorska region and in other parts of Slovenia, it maintained its activities mainly due to sacrifices of its members. The lives and works of the female members are presented in the thesis.
