In Krško, an increasing number of new industrial buildings are being constructed, while many older structures are falling into disrepair. Among them is the Labod Libna textile-industrial building, once an important part of the town’s economic and social identity, but now deteriorating. Challenges in the Posavje region, such as an aging population and youth outmigration, further impact the social and spatial development of the area. The Labod Libna building therefore presents an opportunity to be transformed into a community center – a modern, functional, and human-friendly space, open to all residents, while preserving an important part of the local industrial heritage.
One of the key foundations of the project is design adapted for individuals with autism. Autism, as a neurological developmental condition, requires careful spatial planning with attention to sensory stimuli, clear organization, and orientation. This approach creates architecture that is accessible to a wider spectrum of visitors and truly functions as a community hub.
The renovation of Labod Libna thus connects past and future while creating a space that encourages inclusion, social interaction, and meaningful use for all residents.
