The thesis deals with the media coverage of the first three football World Cups (1930, 1934 and 1938) in Slovenian newspapers. The purpose of the thesis is to analyze how Slovenian print media presented this global sporting event in a period when football was just emerging as a mass phenomenon, both internationally and locally. Through a content analysis of articles published in newspapers of the time, the thesis reveals the interests, values and views of the Slovenian media on football and reflects the broader social and political context of the interwar period. The thesis thus offers insight into the development of sports journalism, the importance of national team appearances and the acceptance of football as a global spectacle in the eyes of Slovenian readers.
