The article discusses discrimination against parent-carers in the context of balancing paid work and care. After defining the problem and concept of discrimination against carers comes an analysis of discrimination against parents of children with disabilities. The analysis is based on a review of research and other sources that reveal the specific features of discrimination against this group of parents and the significant potential for discrimination related to caregiving burdens and organisational context factors. Mothers are also shown to be more vulnerable to discrimination compared to fathers. A reflection on the systemic problems of discrimination follows, which takes account of the broader socio-economic context and the new European directive on the reconciliation of work and private life, which in addition addresses the prohibition of discrimination against parents in the field of work.
