In the northern part of the Ljubljana basin are located Kamnik-Savinja Alps. On the southern edge of this mountain range in the municipality of Cerklje in Gorenjska can be found a mountain Krvavec. Krvavec is well-known mainly because of the ski resort RTC Krvavec, which stretches along the slopes of the mountain from 1,450 meters above sea level to the peak of Zvoh, which is the highest point of the ski area with its 1,971 meters above sea level.
The advantage of the ski resort is its excellent geographical location, as it is close to Ljubljana, Kranj and Kamnik. From the ski resort there are wonderful
views of the KSA, the Ljubljana basin, region of Gorenjska, and across the slopes of the Caravans all the way to the Julian Alps. The sun-exposed slopes thus attract many visitors from the valley. Skiing has been the most important activity of the RTC Krvavec Sports Center since the late 1950s. The ski center in Krvavec has been constantly developing over the decades. In recent years, summer tourism has also started to develop rapidly.
As the main problem of the development of the ski center I recognized the lack of modern tourist accommodation, which could bring Slovenian skiing closer to the ski resorts beyond our borders. Since construction in Krvavec is very limited, the existing hotel called Dom na Krvavcu, located
in the immediate vicinity of Plečnik’s Chapel of Maria Snežna, proved to be a suitable option. Only this one has been rebuilt and added to many times since its original form. Existing hotel has slowly but steadily lost its primary role as a hotel. Today it is divided between more than 50 different owners and is slowly but steadily deteriorating.
After reviewing the existing situation, I decided that I did not want to preserve the building and would design a new modern mountain hotel in its place, which would meet the modern needs of ski tourism. Also, the existing building in this extremely exposed and dominant location on the edge of the “pier” does not communicate with the surroundings. The new design is more respectful of the location and is more softly connected to the terrain. Also, with its wooden construction, it aims to be lighter and more naturally placed in the location, with its orientation responds to the weather conditions and creates a respectful attitude towards the Plečnik's Chapel, which represents the architectural heritage of the location.
