The master’s thesis explores the topic of alternative uses of roof surfaces. The aim of the thesis is to utilize underused rooftop areas by establishing new spaces on rooftops for public use, green and sports surfaces, as well as areas for generating electricity. Another goal is to raise awareness and provide recommendations on rooftop space design.
As a platform for achieving these objectives, the Lidl store on Božičeva Street was selected. A public space was created on its roof, equipped with green areas, sports facilities, and surfaces for energy production. The thesis also addresses how to establish access to rooftop areas.
The new rooftop design demonstrates how large retail companies can create quality spaces for store visitors and local residents, fostering a stronger connection with the community in which they sell their products. This approach to rooftop design benefits both the customer and the retailer.
