The topic of this thesis is the veneration of saints and some of the most popular saints in Slovenian territory in the 15th and early 16th centuries, who were also frequent motifs in the art of this period. One of the most important roles is played by Saint Mary, a protector against the various dangers that threatened the population of the time, especially the Ottoman threat and pestilence. This is particularly evident in the motifs of Mary the Protector with a Cloak and Mary as the Apocalyptic Woman. Besides these, the thesis also focuses on two characteristic motifs of the time: the Dance of Death and
Sunday Christ.
