The thesis, based on the example of Solčava region, examines the representation of rural areas and their identity. Using methods such as semi-structured field interviews, modal analysis of tourist publications, and quantitative as well as qualitative analysis of images of the Solčava rural areas on social networks, it examines the idealization of the rural areas and the processes that lead to idealization, especially in terms of tourism. Idyllic representations influence the development of the rural, as tourism providers create "idyllic" settings for their guests. The idealization of the rural areas could be understood as commodification of rural. It is presented in tourist brochures and on social media. The photographs and texts published there have the power to reproduce and reinforce the idyllic image. Locals and tourism providers guide tourists and their gaze through the activities they offer and the thematic and hiking trails they provide, thus limiting visits to locations they wish to keep for themselves. The rural idyll is an urban construct. Idealization comes from both (urban) tourists and locals. The two directions of idealization intertwine and reinforce each other.
