In my diploma thesis, I deal with some conjunctions that express a subordinate relation on the syntactic level, but not on the semantic level – therefore, they have different roles. In language, this leads to a discrepancy between the syntactic and semantic levels. Some authors have already written about this, but the phenomenon has not yet been precisely defined. The theoretical part defines the starting points for understanding structural and semantic relations, more precisely the adversative relation and the so-called particle subordinate clauses. The analytical part, on the basis of a selected corpus, presents and analyzes examples of this phenomenon from authentic Slovenian texts.
