In my thesis, I focused on the analysis of linguistic and nonlinguistic aspects of Rok Škrlep’s performances in the stand-up show Svetovne fore and the television quiz show Male sive celice. In the analysis, I examined in greater detail his speech, speech rate, sentence intonation, and phrasing through pauses and emphasis. In both cases, the performer writes his own text and prepares accordingly for the performance; however, due to the nature of live speaking, some deviations occur. The speech rate is more dynamic in the quiz show, while it is calmer and more consistent in the stand-up performance. Sentence intonation and the placement of pauses are used correctly in both instances, although in Svetovne fore, pauses tend to be longer due to the involvement of the audience. A significant point of divergence is the level of formality in the speech — within the context of RTV Slovenija, Škrlep strives for linguistically correct, formal speech, whereas in the more relaxed environment of stand-up comedy, this is not the case.
