The Dark Side of the Moon (1960) by Mimi Malenšek, Between Fear and Duty: A Chronicle of a Remote Homestead (1967) by Karel Grabeljšek, and That I am afraid? (2012) by Maruša Krese are novels united by their depiction of partisans and Home Guards - two ideologically opposed groups during the Second World War in Slovenia. Through a (linguistic-)stylistic analysis (including time of publication, genre, reflection of the author's life, narration, syntax, and lexis) and an ethical analysis (decision and choice, responsibility and guilt, and memory and silence in the context of historical reconfiguration), further supplemented by an exploration of the reader’s role and the potential objectivity or subjectivity of the narrative, this thesis aims to shed light on how the partisan and Home Guard perspectives are represented in the selected novels.
