In my thesis, I address a building, specifically the house in which the well-known Slovenian poet Srečko Kosovel lived. The house requires renovation, as it is of older origin and is deteriorating in some places. Although it was renovated at the end of the previous century, many elements have since become worn, and at the same time, construction standards have become more stringent. The thesis focuses on possible methods for rehabilitating the load-bearing structures. I examine in greater detail one of the key structural elements – the inter-floor construction made of prefabricated brick elements with the largest span. I describe and perform a numerical analysis of the current loadbearing capacity of this structure, finding that the existing condition does not meet the requirements of the applicable building construction regulations. Subsequently, I propose appropriate solutions to improve the load-bearing capacity of this inter-floor structure. As the first and more reasonable option, I suggest strengthening it by adding a supporting hotrolled steel beam of type HEA. The second option involves demolishing the existing inter-floor slab and replacing it with a suitable reinforced concrete slab.
