The diploma thesis presents the complete process of creating an educational 2D
animation about the mammoth, from initial research to the final animation, which
tells a story related to the discovery of the Nevlje mammoth. The goal is for the
Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik to use the animation as an enrichment of its
museum materials aimed at raising awareness among locals and tourists about this
significant discovery in the Kamnik region.
The theoretical part provides a general overview of ice ages and mammoths. It also
includes a presentation of animation, its historical development, and emphasizes its
role in the preservation of cultural and natural heritage.
The experimental part describes the entire process of producing the 2D animation.
From researching all professional and scientific materials about the mammoth and
consultations with experts in the field, to the hardware and software, tools, and
techniques used. The entire process is divided into the phases of research, pre
production, production, and post-production, with detailed descriptions of all
procedures and elements involved. The work process is described from the initial
sketches to final animated solutions. The animation was created using computers,
tablets, and various software programs.
The outcome of the thesis is a three-minute 2D animation that tells the story of the
Nevlje mammoth, from its life to the present day.
In the conclusion, the thesis highlights the importance of education about significant
paleontological and archaeological discoveries in our region, as well as the
importance of preserving and protecting natural and cultural heritage. With
additional work, the product of this thesis could also be translated into other world
languages.
