We wanted to address the challenge how to model contacts or in our example bolted joints and how to define parameters in a simulation environment in order to as accurately as possible capture their influence on natural frequencies and behaviour in the frequency domain. Natural frequencies were measured in an anechoic chamber using a phone microphone. Measured values were than as reference to match them as closely as possible by adjusting simulation parameters and specifically contact parameters. The results showed that with enough refined mesh, appropriate selection of simulation parameters and optimized coefficient of friction, which is used to calculate preload force in bolts, simulation results could approximate the measured frequencies with maximum deviation of 8 % per frequency.
