In the last decade, there has been a significant increase in the use of platforms for short-term property rentals, such as Booking and Airbnb. With the growth in the number of reservations and the increase in properties offered by landlords, the volume of administrative work required to manage them has increased as well.
This thesis focuses on the design and development of a comprehensive system that streamlines rental management and enables digital, contactless key handover. The proposed system consists of three components: a web application for landlords, a mobile application for tenants, and a smart electronic lock based on an ESP32 microcontroller with Wi-Fi connectivity.
The developed system, as the outcome of this thesis, improves the time efficiency of the physical key handover process and enables landlords to rent out a larger number of properties more easily and effectively.
