The problem we tackle in this thesis is detecting issues in the operation of
an electric fence for cattle. At home, it often happened that the electric
fence’s operation was weakened or even interrupted, which consequently led
to calls from passersby about our livestock being scattered across neighboring
pastures. To address this issue, we designed a system that reports electric
fence faults and enables easy monitoring of its operation.
The system is based on ESP32 microcontrollers which, with the help of
the LoRa Reyax RYLR896 module, establish communication between the
pasture and a home base station. The home base station is connected to
the internet, allowing data to be transmitted to a database. We then access
the data from the database using a mobile application developed in Flutter
[9]. The database is also configured for cloud messaging, meaning that upon
receiving specific data, it automatically sends a notification to the mobile
device on which the application is installed.
