The deflection of a beam in a channel plays an important role in various fields, such as the oil industry, bioinformatics, and medicine. A two-stage minimization scheme based on the Viterbi algorithm and the SLSQP method is used to obtain numerical results, while a dedicated measuring setup is developed for experimental data. A comparison between numerical and experimental results shows that the developed numerical model is suitable for describing the deflection of a thin elastic beam in a straight narrow channel under the assumptions of infinitely stiff channel walls and a frictionless contact.
