In my thesis, I analyse and document the characteristics of more than 50 short prose forms, most of which are mentioned in the works of Gregor Kocijan. Among them are well-known forms such as the fable, fairy tale, sketch, folk tale, and novella, as well as less familiar or more rarely used ones today, such as the burlesque, elegy, meditation, relief, and vignette. For some forms, there are sub-chapters on nearly or completely overlapping terms; the highest number of sub-forms (nine) is listed at the črtica (sketch). Many forms are not considered entirely literary, therefore, they are marked with an asterisk (*) as semi-literary. In defining forms, I rely on various Slovene literary theorists and historians, although for forms they do not explain, I apply common definitions (mostly from SSKJ) or meaning from other fields. I check characteristics in production with texts that have been defined as a specific form either by the author or editor (usually in the title or subtitle), or by theorists or historians in their analyses. The thesis concludes with several original examples of forms, written on the basis of the established characteristics.
