Due to changing migration patterns, the proportion of immigrants in Slovenia has recently increased, bringing numerous challenges to their integration into various social systems and institutions, including schools. Children are a particularly vulnerable group in the migration process, as they face not only a change of environment but also linguistic, cultural, and emotional challenges, all of which can affect their integration into the school setting. Education is a crucial part of a child’s development, as it significantly influences their socialization and future opportunities. The integration of immigrant children into schools is therefore a complex process, in which social work plays a key role. Through a holistic approach, it promotes the social integration of children and their systematic inclusion in both the school environment and the broader society. This thesis explores the contribution of social work to the integration of immigrant children in Slovenian primary schools. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with social workers at schools with a high percentage of immigrant students. The results of the research highlight the important role of social work in the integration of immigrant children into the school environment and the broader society. They identify key methods and elements of social work that contribute to successful and holistic integration and provide a foundation for developing guidelines aimed at offering more effective support to immigrant children within the educational system and the community.
