The thesis is based on the optimisation of the mass transfer of gases from a reaction mixture through a hollow porous PTFE membrane to the liquid sorbent inside. A large part of it consists of the design and set-up of a high-pressure reactor system, a low-pressure desorption system, pressure tests and tests of the transfer of carbon dioxide through the membrane into demineralised water as sorbent, under different conditions. This is followed by the analysis of the outlet mixture on a gas chromatograph, analysis and computational interpretation of the data. The main objective of the thesis is to characterise the in-situ separation of gases from the reaction mixture, using a hollow porous PTFE membrane and liquid sorbents, and to propose useful guidelines for further research work and the transition to the implementation of the reaction in this system.
