This thesis examines the social and economic conditions in the Roma settlement of Šuto Orizari, located near the capital city of Skopje in the Republic of North Macedonia. The settlement, where the majority of residents are Roma, was established on a former waste dump site without an urban planning scheme. The analysis reveals that, despite the presence of basic public services such as electricity, water supply, sewage, and transport infrastructure, many buildings lack access to these services or are in very poor condition. Housing is often constructed from unsuitable materials, further deteriorating living conditions. The lack of adequate housing and spatial congestion are key factors affecting the quality of life. The thesis suggests solutions that include improving infrastructure, developing educational and healthcare opportunities, and increasing the inclusion of the Roma community in society.
