Topic description Legal identity is a fundamental concept in democratic societies, serving as the basis upon which citizens exercise their civil and human rights and fundamental freedoms. Since the beginning of the 21st century, biometric identity documents have started to be used for proving legal identity. The purpose of this thesis is to present the awareness of Slovenian citizens regarding the administrative procedure of creating a biometric identity card and the potential issues citizens may encounter during the process. Methodology: To achieve this purpose, a survey was conducted. Findings: Many citizens of the Republic of Slovenia, particularly the elderly, are not fully familiar with the administrative procedure of obtaining a biometric identity card. The main issues faced by citizens during the administrative procedure of creating a biometric identity card include difficulties accessing administrative units due to a lack of parking spaces, high costs of the process, and challenges in accessing administrative units due to their distance.
