In this master’s thesis, we explored the role of the euphonium in a brass band, its technological and musical development, and the differences in function and the colour of sound compared to the baritone. Understanding these distinctions is crucial for a comprehensive analysis of orchestral functions within a brass band, as each instrument contributes to the ensemble’s overall artistic expression. The research included both theoretical and practical aspects of these instruments, with a particular focus on their specific role in the Brass Band Slovenia, which served as our essential example of the evolving role of the euphonium in the modern musical environment. In addition, through an interview with the composer and conductor of Brass Band Slovenia, we gained valuable insights into the practical workings of the orchestra, which allowed us to better understand the artistic, technical, and organizational challenges faced by the performers and creators of this ensemble. The connection between theory and practice, examined through analysis and interview, enabled us to highlight in the conclusion the key characteristics that influence the development of Brass Band Slovenia and contribute to a broader understanding of the euphonium's role in this musical context.
