The research focuses on the challenges of musicians with hearing impairments and their experiences with music. It explores the impact of deafness on musical practises, the creative process and professional life, as well as strategies for adapting to these limitations.
In my work, I drew on the stories of deaf musicians and used a qualitative approach by analysing their experiences and creative practises. The data was supplemented by a review of existing literature and examples from music history. The results showed that deafness is not only an obstacle but also a challenge that leads to innovative approaches in music creation. The results show that deaf musicians often use physical vibration perception, visual cues and technology to compensate for the inability to perceive through hearing.
Technology and inclusive practises open up opportunities for further research and encourage adaptations to the educational and professional environment for deaf musicians.
