In my diploma thesis, I discussed the Importance of Reading for Children's Emotional Development.
The purpose of the research was to determine the importance of reading on a child's ability to recognize, express and understand emotions and on the development of empathy and social skills, which are very important.
The theoretical part of the thesis includes the definition of children's emotional development, the importance of quality picture books and illustrations, the impact of shared reading and the importance of emotional literacy in kindergarten. The emphasis is on the role of adults - educators and parents - in creating a stimulating reading environment that enables children to express and understand their own and other people's emotions.
In the empirical part, a study was conducted with interviews among professional kindergarten workers, who provided insight into their experiences on the importance of reading in everyday practice. The findings of the research showed that regular and goal-oriented reading significantly contributes to children's emotional development. Children to whom adults regularly read express their emotions more easily, develop empathy and better understand interpersonal relationships later in life.
Based on the analysis of theoretical and empirical findings, we can conclude that reading plays a key role in shaping emotionally stable and socially responsive individuals. By incorporating reading into everyday educational practice, we can significantly contribute to the holistic development of children.
